Allace’s Revelations is the name given to the writings of Allace Everfell, a Yuan-ti Pureblood Sorcerer, as she invariably found herself travelling far and wide with all sorts of companions. As a person who ever dealt in half-truths and lies, it is hard to ascertain how she exactly came across these discoveries, or whether one is to believe the postscripts affixed to these discoveries. But what is certain is that the discovery of these spells are a boon to the arcane studies.
With a sigh, I place another book into a wooden box. It was one of many that I had read through, and one of many yet left to be read. The thought filled me with a bit of dread as I glanced back at the table, with three stacks of thick books yet to be sorted.
“Oi.” Came a deep voice from outside the office, the sound of heavy footsteps drawing closer the door. I close my eyes and let out a quiet groan as a tall Orc entered the office, having to duck down to fit through the door frame. He took a look about the office – it was small and cramped, with stacks of tied books occupying the corners of the room. “Yer not done yet?” He asked, his gaze returning to meet mine.
I exhale through the corner of my mouth and look around myself before shrugging. “There’s a lot to go through, Sam. It’s gonna take me a few more hours at the very leas–”
He cuts me off. “Not looking for excuses, kid.” Sam says, crossing his arms. “The boss was pretty clear as to what’ll happen if you’re not done in time. Got it?”
I grit my teeth and look at the Orc. He looks back with a lack of interest, shrugging as we lock eyes. I eventually sigh before nodding. “Yeah, yeah. Fine.”
“Good. Best of luck, heh-heh!” He replies, before ducking out of the office and heading elsewhere. With that, I lean back in my chair and let out a sigh of frustration. The work wasn’t hard – it was tedious. Most of the books in this office were old and bore no relevance to our line of work, containing things like the health records of a farm’s livestock over a decade, the manifest of the previous carriage service that went to and from Viodium, and what seemed to be a diary from a person called “Rook”.
But complaining about it wouldn’t get me out of here sooner. I still had much more to do, and I’d be damned if I didn’t finish on time. Only the gods know how much food everyone was going to order, and I wasn’t about to empty out my purse for these lot. So with that in mind I got back to work, taking the next book and opening it.
After a number a few hours, I finally reached the last book. By now it was dark outside. Not that actually meant much this time of year, but what this time of year did bring was snow. And tiny specks of white were falling on the other side of the window by my desk. With a soft inhale, I turned back to the last book. I might be late to the company dinner, but at least I’ll be in good company.
Even if some were sore winners.
